Expanded clay concrete

Expanded clay concrete  is the most common kind of lightweight concrete. In this concrete, a large aggregate is expanded clay, and cement used as binder . Claydite and river sand is used as a fine aggregate.

Expanded clay concrete is different types:

• constructive,
• heat-insulating,
• constructive and heat-insulating.

Constructive expanded clay concrete used in the construction of capital structures of buildings or bridges. Constructed claydite concrete has a density of 1400 - 1800 kg / m3, compressive strength of 100-500 kg / cm2, frost resistance up to 500 MW (up to 500 cycles of alternate freezing and thawing). The use of constructional expanded clay concrete allows reducing the weight and cost of reinforced concrete structures.

Heat-insulating claydite concrete is used as a heat-insulating material in the enclosing structures of buildings. Its density (in the dried state) is from 350 to 600 kg / m³; compressive strength from 5 to 25 kg / cm², index of thermal conductivity 0,11-0,17 W / (m • K).

Structural and thermal insulation claydite concrete is used, mainly for single-walled panels, large blocks, etc. Its density is 700-1200 kg / m3, the compressive strength is 35-100 kg / cm2, the index of thermal conductivity is 0.21-0.46 W / (m · K), the frost-resistance is 15-100 MW (15 to 100 cycles of alternating freezing and thawing).

The usage of lightweight concrete in construction is very beneficial. It allow to increase the thermal and acoustic characteristics of the structure, as well as reduce the weight of the structure, which is especially important in the construction of multistory buildings.
